Staff Nurse

Birtley House offers real career progression for staff nurses who wish to follow a career specialising in care of the elderly. This is a very supportive environment, with a high emphasis on training and personal growth, making it ideal for newly qualified nurses and those who want to develop their skills and grow in their career. 

Career path:

The career path for Nurses encompasses the following roles:

  • Staff Nurse;
  • Senior Staff Nurse;
  • Night Sister (4 shifts/week: 8pm-8am);
  • Clinical Lead;
  • Head of Nursing.

Skills:

  • Clinical skills required: venipuncture; urinary catherisation;
  • beneficial skills (not vital as training would be given): knowledge of McKinley syringe driver and palliative care drugs;

I started as a newly qualified nurse of just 8 months and truly believe that taking the post as staff nurse at Birtley was the best decision I ever made, not only with career development, but being fortunate to work in an environment that is truly unique. I have undertaken a wide variety of training courses, all with the help of Matron and with backing from the Board.  Four years on, I am lucky to have been promoted first to Clinical Lead & now to Head of Nursing.

The career path for Carers encompasses the following roles:

Marketing Executive

We also have this very exciting opportunity to work in our marketing team:

  • To work with the Board, senior staff and external consultants in the creative development of the marketing opportunities, adverts and strategies;
  • to help maintain and develop the website in liason with external IT consultants;
  • to develop the social media presence;
  • to help field enquiries and manage the company's contacts and enquiries database;
  • to liaise with stakeholders, staff and partner organisations in identifying and implementing opportunities for both publicity and business opportunities;
  • to assist in the production of a quarterly newsletter;
  • to help build contact and promotional opportunities with the care and health sector locally and nationally.

The successful candidate must be an excellent commmunicator and be confident in meeting clients, stakeholders and staff with first-rate organisational skills and be able to demonstate initiative. The role requires a high degree of confidentiality and good inter-personal skills.

This is a full-time role.
