Mews Warden – Full-time & Bank positions

Birtley Mews is a unique development of eight, two-bedroom apartments which are situated in a peaceful courtyard setting behind Birtley House. These spacious apartments provide all the advantages of an independent lifestyle for those who are not yet requiring care but who would value relief from daily concerns such as household maintenance, utility bills, laundry and food shopping.

We are looking for the ideal candidate to support the Mews residents. Therefore, we require someone who is organised, efficient, and proactive who embodies our core values of Kindness, Integrity, Positivity and Adaptability. The successful Mews Warden will be asked to cover staff sickness, annual leave, or any other gaps in the rota. As this will be a zero-hours contract, we do not guarantee any hours of work per month. A suitable number of days spent shadowing a current member of the team will be provided in order to give the necessary training for the role.

Purpose of Position

The role of the Mews Warden is to provide what is termed a ‘concierge’ service to help our Mews residents with anything they need* to maintain their independence and enjoy a healthy, social and active lifestyle.

The concierge service is provided 7 days a week between 8:00am and 5:00pm. The team of Wardens work on a rota system with hours and days work agreed individually.

Wardens are expected to build positive relationships with each resident and to tailor the support they provide to suit individual needs and changing requirements. In addition to our company core values of Kindness, Integrity, Positivity and Adaptability, we expect Wardens to show empathy and patience and have excellent communication skills. Wardens should advocate for the safety and dignity of Mews residents at all times and ensure that the privacy of our residents is respected and that their wellbeing is promoted.

The services provided by Birtley Mews do not include any type of regulated activity, such as personal care. Birtley Mews is not registered with the CQC. If a resident needs support for personal care or other specialist services, these should be arranged through a third-party.

Responsibilities

Professional

1.1 Current COVID protocols are followed at all times and any breaches are reported.
1.2 The current Daily Tasks, as specified in the accompanying document are followed.
1.3 The current Weekly Routines, as specified in the accompanying document are followed.
1.4 Ad hoc support with general housekeeping tasks in the Flats, as requested and agreed with individual residents.
1.5 Co-ordination of the Mews Housekeeping arrangements.
1.6 Ad hoc support with correspondences and other administrative tasks as requested and agreed with individual residents
1.7 Regular and appropriate communication with families as required.
1.8 Arrangement of appointments as requested by residents
1.9 Arrangement of social engagements, outings and other social activities as requested by residents.
1.10 Shopping & collection of prescriptions etc. or co-ordination of this as required.
1.11 Maintain the Mews Diary and other specified record-keeping, adhering to company data protection and privacy policies.
1.12 Ensure that communal spaces of the Mews are kept clean and tidy at all times.
1.13 Coordinate with Birtley House Maintenance Team regarding any damage, breakages, refurbishment work, compliance tests or other requests as appropriate.
1.14 Liaise with Birtley House Nursing Home concerning any shared issues around access, service provision, disruption to services as appropriate.
1.15 Coordinate requirements for transportation using company vehicles.
1.16 Be vigilant for fire risks and ensure that all fire safety procedures and fire actions are followed in accordance with policy.
1.17 Ensure the effective operation of the emergency call bell system by carrying out daily function check.
1.18 Adhere to company email etiquette & all IT and network security policies as appropriate.
1.19 Be alert to the potential for emergency situations and be aware of the resources and support that is available in any given circumstance.

Training and Development

2.1 Maintaining and improving professional knowledge and competence.
2.2 Attend all mandatory training as directed.
2.3 To attend supervision meetings as and when directed.
2.4 To attend an annual appraisal, working together with the Staff Mentorship Manager to identify training needs and ideas for further developments.
2.5 To read all Company Policies and Procedures and keep up to date with Company regulations and adhere to them.
2.6 Demonstrate a commitment to the audit and evaluation of the service and one’s own practice.

Health and Safety

3.1 It is your responsibility to read all the company’s policies and procedures.
3.2 It is your responsibility to report any hazards to the Health & Safety Manager or the Director.
3.3 To be familiar with current research and development within elderly care.
