Throwback to ‘Burns Night’ at Birtley House

Last week 25 care home Residents & their guests enjoyed a Burns Night Supper at Birtley House with as many of the traditions as possible! The tables were decorated with tartan and heather from the gardens, the haggis (donated by Michelle Hutchison & sent specially down from Scotland) was duly “piped” in before Michelle read Ode to a Haggis! Resident, Andrew Jamieson read the Selkirk Grace and the meal began. Scotch Broth & oatcakes were served, followed by Haggis, neeps & tatties with Cranakin for dessert. Famous Grouse whisky, wine or soft drinks were offered, and the Toast to the ‘Lassies’ was made by Resident Michael Jenkinson, and the Toast to the ‘Laddies’ was made by Resident Gee Russell. There was much laughter and fun, and before the evening drew to a close, Michelle sang, most beautifully, The Rowen Tree. Then we all held hands and sang ‘Auld Lang Syne’.
