Our Living Wall

The latest planting project at Birtley is this fantastic ‘living wall’ which the Residents were very enthusiastic about. The plants were chosen by the residents themselves on a recent outing to Notcutts Garden Centre for tea.

The living wall is made up of 64 felt pockets in which plants can be grown in their own soil and, with regular watering, are kept moist by the wicking action of the felt.  The pockets and plants were bought with money raised last Christmas when the staff wore fun jumpers in return for a donation towards something for the Residents to enjoy. After some consideration, and having been inspired on another visit to The Therapy Garden near Guildford, it was decided to use the money for a living wall which definitely adds a wonderful splash of colour to the Activites Courtyard.

The project is on-going as there are still more pockets to fill!
