Friday 20th June 2014 was National Care Homes Open Day and over 30 residents and guests gathered in the Rose Garden for a sumptious Strawberry Tea. The sun was shining and there was no wind, which made for a very pleasant temperature. The tea started with a refreshing glass of elderflower cordial and followed with home-grown strawberries and cream, sandwiches, victoria sponge, scones and tea, all provided by Angelina & Magda in the kitchens. An added extra for the afternoon was Birtley cider tasting, which seemed to to go down well with everyone!
When the tea was finished, Simon (Whalley) planted an Almond tree, just below the Rose Garden in memory of his mother, June Whalley, to commemorate her 90th birthday.
Special thanks go to Matt for his hard work in preparing the Rose Garden to provide such beautiful surroundings for the occasion.
