On Monday 31st October 2016, David Mowat MP, the Minister for Community Health & Care, visited Birtley, along with representatives from Care England. The Minister met with Simon Whalley, Chairman and Karen Williams, Matron and were given a tour Birtley. David Mowat said "I was very impressed with the quality of care and dedication of staff at Birtley House and was able to see first-hand why this home was rated 'Outstanding' by CQC".
Martin Green OBE, Chief Executive of Care England said "Birtley House is a good example of how outstanding care can be achieved with the right local networks, strong leadership and an excellent and well supported staff team".
