A day of workshops, performances and demonstrations in dance, music and craft, designed specifically for older adults, took place in our beautiful parkland. Organised by Surrey Arts, this event attracted 130 attendees from Care Homes and Day Centres across Surrey, in addition to the Mayor of Waverley, Cllr Liz Wheatley.
The finale of the day centred around a grass labyrinth which had been marked out by Surrey Arts several weeks ago, and then tended by our gardening team. A dance had been specially commissioned for the day and this took place in the labyrinth. Several of the attendees, including the Mayor, then proceeded around the mown path, following dance movements they had learnt earlier in the day.
A Labyrinth is a single winding path leading you to the centre and returning to the beginning again. Our temporary labryrinth was surprisingly long, 256 paces, with walls formed of finger knitting and crochet.
With Halloween celebrations growing each year in the UK, our Birtley House activities team decided to really embrace it this year and make the most of our own home grown pumpkins.
Having made the decision that additional care is required and that a nursing home is the right solution, finding the right one can be a daunting process. To help ease this, Birtley House nursing home guildford have devised a check list of the initial, most important considerations for any individual or family.
