Birtley’s commitment to the community has always included support for local charities. For several years now we have had our own Fund which is managed for us by the Community Foundation for Surrey. This Fund supports a number of local projects such as the Surrey Association for the Visually Impaired, Age UK in Waverley, Gosden House (school for children with learning difficulties) and many others.
The recent launch of ‘Surrey Uncovered’ by the CFS and Surrey University reveals a frightening scale of deprivation and need right on our own doorstep. Details of this can be found on www.cfsurrey.org.uk/surrey-uncovered but it has inspired us to try and do more. Our Fund has always been strongly supported by our residents and their families as well as staff, friends and neighbours. We are therefore planning to invite anyone interested to a presentation and a glass of wine here in November to hear about this report and learn how we can help. The date is not yet fixed because we are waiting to hear from Bernard Cribbens who has offered to join us for this event. However if anyone is particularly keen to come do please let us know and we will let you know as soon as we have a date.
With Halloween celebrations growing each year in the UK, our Birtley House activities team decided to really embrace it this year and make the most of our own home grown pumpkins.
Having made the decision that additional care is required and that a nursing home is the right solution, finding the right one can be a daunting process. To help ease this, Birtley House nursing home guildford have devised a check list of the initial, most important considerations for any individual or family.
