Readers of this blog will know that a week ago we had our annual carol concert with Blackheath and Bramley Choral Society. This year a new initiative in the lead-up to Christmas was 'Carols with the Staff' in afternoon Activities.
What a wonderful afternoon it was! Stuart White who, among his many skills is one the organists at Bramley Church, volunteered to play the piano, while our new Estate Manager, Jill Parrott, showed that she too is multi-talented by providing additional musical accompaniment on her flute.
The programme for the afternoon included six carols and Christmas songs, two poems and two readings from the Bible, one of which was read by Resident Jack Richardson. The highlight for the Staff Choir and the 25-30 assembled residents was the '12 days of Birtley Christmas', complete with props! The rather hectic rendition was greeted by spontaneous applause and cheering. Before afternoon tea was served there was time for a few more carols - favourites selected by our Residents.
An afternoon spent getting to know each other
With Halloween celebrations growing each year in the UK, our Birtley House activities team decided to really embrace it this year and make the most of our own home grown pumpkins.
Having made the decision that additional care is required and that a nursing home is the right solution, finding the right one can be a daunting process. To help ease this, Birtley House nursing home guildford have devised a check list of the initial, most important considerations for any individual or family.
