Birtley Chaplain, Reverend Canon Angela Townshend celebrated her birthday at Birtley with a special lunch for family and friends.
Birtley House won the South East Regional Final at the National Family Business Awards in a glittering ceremony held at Wembley Arena on Friday.
Residents were encouraged to bring an item of special interest or of sentimental value to them, and tell us why it was one of their favourite things.

How would we cope if we lived with dementia? How can we help those who do? Although Birtley does not specialise in dementia, it is likely that many of us will develop the disease as we get older, or will know someone who does. So, Karen arranged for the Virtual Dementia Tour to visit Birtley. This simulated training experience is the only scientifically and medically proven method of giving a person with a healthy brain an experience of what dementia might be like; approximating to mid-range Alzheimer's.
Jeremy Hunt visits Birtley House: a hastily arranged visit to Birtley in the hectic run-up to the General Election gave our Residents the chance to discuss social care issues in the UK with Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, Jeremy Hunt. Chatting to all the 11 assembled residents in turn, he focused on just a few at a time to shake hands with them and answer their individual questions.
Greek Dancing at the Mediterranean themed evening! Led by our effervescent Greek carer, Betty from Thessaloniki, our Residents were treated to a hilarious version of typical Greek dancing; with Karen & Cheryl looking rather like extras in a Nativity Play.
On Monday 22nd May, the Morning Activity Team arranged a fun, interactive session with Residents, reminiscing on memories of the great British seaside.
