Birtley Massage Therapist, Val Hutton, who had her head shaved in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support (see an earlier blog post) has now raised a staggering £2,835, which includes £600 donated from Birtley staff, residents and their families.
On the evening of Monday 12th September, twenty Residents gathered together for a Tropical themed supper, an idea that was put forward by the late, Heinz Mayer, so the evening was dedicated to him.

On Tuesday 16th August, Carol Smith ran her second 'Art in the woods' workshop day at Birtley. the group enjoyed a lovely day of artwork and Simon joined them to flex his artistic muscles!
On Friday 19th August, Derek Goode and his wife Betty, planted two Boscobel rose plants in the rose garden in memory of their great friend, Jean Donaldson.
Birtley House has successfully moved from a paper-based to a computerised care plan system with the advent of MED e-care.
On Wednesday 17th August, the Mayor of Waverley, Councillor Chris Storey, came to Birtley to unveil Liberty, the Birtley House entry in the Surrey Hills CowParade.
Residents and Staff entered into a competition to name the Birtley Cow that will form part of the Surrey Cow Parade and the joint winners were Miss Patricia Lewis and Senior Staff Nurse, Michelle Hutchison with the name LIBERTY (an anagram of Birtley). The competition raised £82.00 for the Community Foundation for Surrey.
