On 13th February, Gladys Amey celebrated her 104th birthday with a visit from the Mayor of Waverley, Cllr. Liz Wheatley and her Consort Mike. Gladys then went out for lunch with her family to enjoy her favourite pub lunch of steak and kidney pie....
Gladys' granddaughter, Karen Williams, who is also the Matron/Manager at Birtley House said "my Gran had an amazing week of celebrations, she enjoyed a champagne party with other residents and family and still had the energy to go out today. She is an example to us all" Cllr. Wheatley commented how much she felt the atmosphere at Birtley helped create the quality of life enjoyed by all of the residents.
