Birtley House's greatest asset remains the continuity of family management, which now spans nearly eighty years, together with their determination to offer individual care in a warm and welcoming environment.

The 'family home' atmosphere has always been a key factor in the popularity of Birtley with residents and their own families and new generations are now moving in who remember parents or even grandparents in the Home! 

The name 'Birtley' was originally 'Berkeley' from the old English 'beorc leah' - 'a clearing in the Birch wood'.

The woodland is carpeted with bluebells in the spring.
